Short answer: Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, choose the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it.

Cancel on an Android phone or tablet

  1. Make sure you are signed in to the Google Account that has the subscription.
  2. Open the Google Play Store app.
  3. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  4. Tap Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  5. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  6. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.

According to Google, Play subscriptions renew at the start of each billing period until you cancel, whether that period is weekly, monthly, yearly or something else.

Cancel on a computer

Go to play.google.com, sign in with the right Google Account, open Payments & subscriptions from your profile icon, find the subscription and select Cancel.

Important: uninstalling is not cancelling

Google Play Help says it plainly: if you uninstall the app, your subscription won’t be cancelled. Resetting or replacing your phone doesn’t stop billing either. More in does deleting an app cancel a subscription.

What happens after you cancel?

  • You usually keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Google states that past subscription periods aren’t refunded, except as described in its help article and refund policies.
  • You can restart a cancelled subscription from the Play Store before it expires.

Pause instead of cancelling

Some apps let you pause a subscription through Google Play. If you won’t need a service for a few months but plan to come back, check the subscription screen for a pause option.

If you can’t find the subscription

  • You may be signed in to a different Google Account; switch accounts and look again.
  • The subscription may have been bought on the service’s website instead of Google Play. Check the merchant name on your card statement and cancel in that account.
  • Subscriptions bought on an iPhone don’t appear in Google Play; see how to cancel subscriptions on iPhone.

Never miss the next renewal

Deciding calmly whether to keep or cancel requires knowing the renewal date in advance. With the Leakpin subscription tracker app you add subscriptions manually and get reminded before renewals. Leakpin does not cancel subscriptions for you; for supported services it opens the official cancellation page and you complete the final step.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be charged if I cancel a Google Play free trial?

If you cancel before the trial ends, the paid period doesn’t start. When access ends can vary by app, so check the information on the cancellation screen.

Do I get a refund when I cancel a Google Play subscription?

Cancelling stops future charges. Refunds for past periods depend on the exceptions in Google Play’s refund policies.
